We love Tecate! Their food is delicious. The spinach enchiladas are the best in Birmingham. We eat at Tecate at least once a week, and it's always good. The gold margaritas on happy hour are great!

Tecate is a notch above most of the mexican restaurants I've been to. The ambiance is very well crafted, if you notice walls have some nice tile framed mirrors and works of art, traditional mexican decor. The service was excellent. Chips also come with complimentary queso, again a break from the typical mexican restaurant. The prices are very reasonable given the location, so I would unquestionably return.

4 stars because the lunch special is phenomenal! 6$ for chicken fajitas. Can't beat it. The food won't blow you away, but it's not the worst I've ever had! For a Spanish restaurant in the southeast, I was very pleased. Huge bonus was the house salsa! Made from scratch and quite delicious! The server was super friendly. The staff was very polite and made the experience better!

Yes, we know, it's "standard" Mexican fare, but there's something to say for the usual comfort food. We eat here at least once every week or two, and have rarely been disappointed. The food quality and service is always consistently good. The free bean and cheese dip along with the salsa and chips is an appreciated gesture. Their guacamole is excellent, and I find many vegetarian options here. When you finish eating go play with the cats available for adoption around the corner at Pet Smart. A satisfying end to a pleasant evening. :-)

Great lunch, fast service. Waiter was on point. It was busy, but didn't have to wait. The only complaint I have was that the salsa was mild and the first batch of chips were old. Other than that, I will be coming back.

Tecate serves standard Mexican fare with problematic service. The food is good -- fresh spinach enchiladas, tasty guacamole, light and delicious yucatecas. The margaritas are OK -- acceptable for the price. But the service experience is a downer on the whole meal. I come here often when visiting family, and on our latest visit the kitchen seemed to be off its game. Our 4 dinners came out about 5-10 minutes apart, one and then the next, over the course of 20-25 minutes, so that the first person served was nearly finished when the last person was served. That seemed to be going all around, with many apologies to other tables. The server was actually very nice, and seemed to be trying very hard to make up for the kitchen's inconsistency. We left feeling frustrated, not at all a satisfying dinner together n

I suppose I should expect Mexican décor upon entering a Mexican restaurant, but goodness, this place is ultimate fiesta fun times party meets sports bar. I spent the good first half of my meal dazed by the color of the place. Phew. That being said, I would gladly come back here every week for the fajitas (steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops, peppers, onions AND a cactus salad)... but I'd bring a couple friends with me to finish them. When their menu says "feeds 2", it really means, "feeds 4 with extra to take home for lunch" Those I visited with got the tacos and were less than impressed. I recommend trying their black bean dip- it's a nice change from the typical chips and salsa. And don't dismiss their drink menu! The tecate margarita is quite good- heavy on the tequila but not bitter!

They have tasty, standard Mexican fare here. Reasonable prices for food/service quality. I've been multiple times, and have always been happy. They bring out a nice little cheesy bean dip for free with your chips when you first get in.

We love it! Excellent service, salsa and bean dip! Carne Asada tacos are excellent. So are shrimp tacos and chicken tortilla soup are so good. Margaritas are tasty and the prices are always reasonable. It's a staple for our family because you really can't go wrong. Highly recommend it!

It's not that difficult to find a Mexican restaurant in Birmingham...just drive a few blocks and you will find one. We discovered Tecate when my son and I decided we were going to try every restaurant with lunch coupons in the Enjoy the City book, and this was our first adventure. The staff is very nice and friendly so we were off to a good start. I am not a super fan of salsa but they also bring out some bean dip..which I love. It was warm, fresh and delicious. There are many TVs on with various programming, which is nice. The lunch menu is basically like any other place. To me all Mexican food is the same but my son loves it and says it's the best place. We have been back many times and the service and food is consistent. Lunch run $18 for 2 and with our coupon we get out for $12 + $4 tip.

Tecate is honestly your typical Mexican fare, so I'm naturally going to be a fan. But wait... there's more. I was there at what seemed to be normal dinner hours and my margarita was only $2. Furthermore, along with the chips and salsa, they also bring out bean dip covered in cheese for free. I'm not a bean dip guy, but the kind gesture went a long way. Don't expect anything different from your typical Mexican restaurant food or drinks, but the good service and deals give it the extra star.

I'm pretty sure I crave fajitas more than the normal person. Because of this, I am always searching out new places to get my fix. I'm not disillusioned about what I'm typically going to get when I go into most mexican joints. Most of the time the menu looks almost identical from place to place. I'm looking for a good salsa and an equally delicious margarita. This place has both of those. Even better, they're margaritas are $2.99 every day during happy hour! They also bring out complimentary bean dip that I really enjoy. The servers are always very nice and really fast and they can easily accommodate a big group. Whenever I've been in, it always seems like there's a group of ten or more eating together. This doesn't mean a table of two can't enjoy their meal. Groups of tables are sectioned off and all the booths have high backs.

One of the best Mexican Restaurants in the Birmingham area, with everything about it being great. The food at this place is the best in Birmingham, with great vegetarian options. I order the Veggie Fajitas, and they are the best. The service here is good, and they do what is expected. The atmosphere is clean, and very vibrant. The food comes with unlimited Chips and Salsa and for 4 people, one bean dip. I do not have any complaints.

We love going to Tecate. It just your basic "good food" Mexican place without the bells and whistles of a fancier place. It's clean and nicely decorated. We have always had impeccable service and the food has always been very good. Our youngest, who has always been a bit of a pip, loves the bean dip they bring out to the table in addition to the chips and salsa. Great family place!

I came here last year when I was in town and absolutely loved it, so I made sure to come again this time around! It sure didn't disappoint. Their lunch specials run Monday through Sunday (in other words, all week), and pretty much everything on the menu is less than $7. There are lots of choices for the lunch special...everything from various types of burritos, fajitas, tacos, flautas, and combination plates too. The complimentary chips (sometimes they're hot out of the fryer!) and salsa/bean dip are all delicious and will stave off your hunger until the food arrives. The place is very clean, too! The baby high chair that was brought to us was gleaming! We couldn't find a speck of dirt/grime/crumbs on it! The servers were super nice as well. We come once a year to Birmingham for a conference...we will definitely go back to Tecate every time we are in town!
